Quantum simulation of open quantum systems in heavy-ion collisions

We present a framework to simulate the dynamics of hard probes such as heavy quarks or jets in hot, strongly-coupled quark-gluon plasma (QGP) on quantum computer. Hard QGP can be treated open systems governed Markovian limit by Lindblad equation. However, due large computational costs, most current phenomenological calculations evolving use semiclassical approximations evolution. Quantum computation mitigate these and offers potential for fully treatment with exponential speedup over classical techniques. report simplified demonstration our IBM Q devices, apply Random Identity Insertion Method (RIIM) account CNOT depolarization noise, addition measurement error mitigation. Our work demonstrates feasibility simulating near-term which is broad relevance applications nuclear physics, information, other fields.
